For weeks, people have been living inside a baseball stadium. The ground is made of red dirt. When it rains—and right now, it is raining hard—everything becomes much more difficult: moving around, getting dry, and maintaining basic hygiene. This is not a normal situation. But it is the reality for thousands of families who have lost everything and still have nowhere to go.
CISP is active in three temporary camps in La Guaira: the José María Vargas Sports Complex in Maiquetía, the César Nieves Stadium, and the Playa Grande Recreational Center. So far, we have assisted nearly 3,100 people, working every day to make an unlivable situation a little more bearable.
What we are doing
- We distributed 1,045 hygiene kits in partnership with UNICEF.
- We installed 21 showers and 32 handwashing stations.
- We distribute 20,000 liters of water daily to supply the camps.
- We manage the daily cleaning and emptying of portable toilets.
- We installed 250 solid waste bins.
- We work alongside families to make shared spaces safer, with a special focus on protecting children and adolescents living in conditions of forced coexistence.
These are concrete, essential actions that make a real difference when you are living in a camp in the rain.
