Two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.1 and 7.5 in magnitude, followed by numerous aftershocks, have struck northern Venezuela, worsening an already fragile humanitarian crisis. compounding an already devastating humanitarian crisis. Thousands of families have lost their homes, their belongings, and everything they relied on. Right now, they urgently need safe drinking water, food, medical care, psychological support, essential supplies, and safe shelter.
CISP has been working in Venezuela for many years. Within hours of the earthquakes, our team on the ground, thankfully unharmed, mobilised to respond to the emergency. We are working alongside local authorities in search and rescue operations while coordinating with institutional partners and humanitarian organizations to deliver life-saving assistance. From neighboring Colombia, we have already deployed logistical and operational support to accelerate the response and reach the most affected communities as quickly as possible. Initial assessments indicate that hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes. Every hour that passes, the need grows more urgent and the response more challenging.
