From Cooperation to Shared Value: The Agrocadenas Project Promotes Territorial Development between Italy and Colombia at Macfrut 2026.
International cooperation is evolving toward models capable of generating shared economic value through agriculture and territorial value chains. This is the central theme that the Agrocadenas project—implemented in Colombia by the CISP–Vencer consortium and funded by AICS (the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation), MADR (the Colombian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), and CISP—will present at Macfrut 2026, Italy’s leading fruit and vegetable trade fair, held in Rimini from April 21 to 23.
The project will host a delegation of small Colombian producers of mango, avocado, coffee, and cocoa at the Italian Cooperation stand. These producers represent the biodiversity and economic potential of their territories, accompanied by representatives from Colombian institutions.
Participation in Macfrut includes two keynote seminars:
- April 21: Dedicated to Geographical Indications (GIs), local development, and sustainable tourism.
- April 22: Focused on the relationship between rural development, Geographical Indications, and financing tools.
These meetings will involve AICS, CISP, and various Italian and European stakeholders, alongside high-level Colombian institutional representatives. Among those attending are the Colombian Ambassador to Italy, Ligia Margarita Quessep Bitar; the President of Banco Agrario de Colombia, Hernando Chica Zuccardi; and representatives from MADR, National Planning Department (DNP), and Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC), confirming the strategic importance of this initiative.
Additionally, on April 23, a side event promoted by AICS will give a voice to producers and cooperation experiences from both Colombia and Cuba.
The participation in Macfrut is complemented by a program of technical visits to the Veneto and Calabria regions. During these tours, the Colombian delegation will study Italian models of certification, local development, and territorial financing. This exchange strengthens the cooperation between the two countries and contributes to building shared opportunities.
The Agrocadenas project
Agrocadenas promotes an integrated approach that links production, territorial identity, and market access, highlighting Geographical Indications as key tools for rural development. This model benefits both Colombian producers, who gain access to new opportunities, and European actors, who strengthen high-quality networks and supply chains.
In post-conflict contexts, this approach holds particular significance, offering sustainable economic alternatives that foster income, social cohesion, and stability. Agrocadenas thus serves as an innovation laboratory aimed at creating replicable models for territorial development.
Macfrut 2026 stands as a strategic platform for building alliances and promoting new cooperation models capable of bridging economic development, sustainability, and peace.
